About The Foundation

Who We Are

The Foundation is a 501(C)(3) non-profit, membership based organization that was founded in 2002 in the heart of the Madison Valley with focus on the Madison River ecosystem and its tributaries.

What We Do

The Madison River Foundation’s primary objective is the care and protection of the Madison River watershed. Our organization is positioned to be a central source of support for projects or initiatives to benefit the river. This position is leveraged by the development of cooperative relationships with local communities, conservation groups, and agencies to pool resources to execute these joint endeavors.

Our conservation approach looks well beyond the banks of the river. In order for us to achieve our goals, we must be aware of the concerns and considerations of all who effect and are affected by the river's health and wellbeing. Establishing and maintaining a balanced relationship with ranchers, farmers, anglers and businesses is key to the success of river management.

Our work focuses on river habitat, stewardship, biology and restoration. Moving forward we will be taking a broader scientific approach regarding: water flows, water quality monitoring and tributary health as they impact on the river.

How We Work

Our Board, staff, and members are driven by our vision and mission statements.

We believe change is something to be managed but cannot be stopped or reversed.

We believe in practical conservation through credible science to achieve our mission.

We believe prevention will always be preferable to restoration and finding solutions is better than addressing symptoms.

We accept that unforeseen threats will always occur; river science will give us the best tools to evaluate, understand and address them.

We believe working cooperatively and jointly with any individual, group or organization with similar values and goals for the Madison River is an important and effective way to protect the river’s health.

We believe informed members make the best stewards for a healthy river and advocacy by informed members is the best avenue for change.

We believe in transparency to our membership and our community in all we do.

We are non-partisan.
